Abstract
Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) is a systemic vasculitis which involves small to medium sized vessels and associated with bronchial asthma, extravascular necrotizing granulomas and peripheral eosinophilia. Although gastrointestinal symptoms are frequently accompanied by CSS, the most common manifestation is mild transient and easily controllable abdominal pain. There have been only a few reports on CSS complicated with acalculous cholecystitis. We recently experienced a case of acalculous cholecystitis in a 46-year-old female patient who had already been treated for bronchial asthma and maxillary sinusitis. Initial laboratory findings showed mild hypereosinophilia which was exponentially increased after admission, and peripheral neuropathy was newly developed. Acalculous cholecystitis was considered a part of CSS manifestation. We report a case of CSS which first presented with acute acalculous cholecystitis.
